Hello friends! So for those of you who do not follow along in my Instagram stories and aren’t already aware- here is what I have been doing for the past year: I have not been writing, I have been talking about writing and not writing- and talking about all the other things I do..besides writing. Which totally reminds me of the scene in Best in Show when Jennifer Coolidge says “we like talking and not talking”….”we both like soup”, side note- if you haven’t seen Best in Show or actually all Christopher Guest films you are missing out- he is a genius.

So anyway, for whatever reason I have been procrastinating writing my blog and my book- I have an outline and four chapters that I wrote two years ago but I need to get my ass in gear- so I have committed to finish it by January. I also am going to turn fifty in December, a fulltime job, two kids and I like to binge watch shows- oh and I am spending ten days in November in Morocco riding camels with one of my best friends from high school so we can have a big adventure before we get too old – now realize we are staying at five star hotels- but we like to act like it will be a Romancing the Stone experience and we are prepping to be kidnapped by jewel smugglers- while wearing very stylish Caftans of course. Basically the next few months are busy with laundry and international intrigue.

My Instagram profile currently says: Truthteller. Queso Lover. Puzzler. Fan of Coffee mugs and coffee table books. Inclusion Advocate. Pajama Enthusiast. All of which is very true, but not the whole truth. I left out the fact that I either go to bed at 7:30 or midnight- no normal time..ever! I also did not share that I pick at my face and my nail polish- oh and I think I forgot to mention that it looks like a nuclear bomb went off in my closet. And the reason why I don’t share all of that is not that I really care if people know all of my oddities and unpleasantness- I mean my brand is to be authentic, so although it would be off brand for someone, that say is a model or lifestyle influencer where your perfection is expected- imperfection is my wheelhouse…so why am I filtering my authenticity?? I guess because everyone else if filtering theirs.

I was really overthinking what to wear to this party recently- for my Instagram friends, this was where I dressed in my “Sister Wife goes on Safari” look and then while out at the aforementioned party I was constantly thinking how lovely everyone else looked and I had an ah ha moment while self loathing in my prairie skirt! Someone (can’t remember who)  already sagely said “we compare our insides to others outsides” but I think the other piece to that is that we forget that people are so much more than what they present physically, what they say, do or even write- we all at least try to position ourselves to our audience. Now I say try, as some people suck at it- some people are just self involved jackasses, but most folks are just hesitant to show their full selves- and I am not talking about letting your freak flag fly” or “I have ten heads in a duffle bag under the bed” but more of a “my mom has dementia and it sucks balls” or just “I stepped in dog shit on way to get in car to go to the airport”.

So something I often tell my kids – if you have to hide it, somethings wrong with it. Which makes total sense when you are talking to a teenager- as you want to make sure they aren’t posting inappropriate snapchats or eating boogers- but then I think we carry that to an extreme into adulthood. Just too many people hiding shit and acting like they either got it all together and/or their shit don’t stink. Both of which are horrible ways to live- as no one has everything together, and everyone’s shit stinks. It would be just so much easier if everyone was just more real and we could connect and build empathy immediately vs. spending a bunch of bullshit time making small talk. Because of this, the older I get the pickier about who I spend my time with. If you ain’t real, don’t come knockin- because ain’t nobody got time for that.

I want to be inspired, I want to laugh, learn, dance, cry and engage in random celebrity gossip when needed. My mom recently had a birthday and this is the text I got :

“Oh goody I’m 70 fucking 8…please appreciate your “youth” and take care of your body, experience as much as possible, forgive all the assholes in your life, love your dogs, wake up happy and grateful…go to bed tired….make sure you do something with your wild and precious life. Love, Mom”

Now, anyone that knows me and knows my Mom knows that there is a lot more to Peggy than that quote and she will be at least 2 chapters of my book, well and then we have her husbands and boyfriends who will take up at least 1 or 1 and a half if we add in the Colorado dudes.

In summary- I am glad to be writing again. I am almost fifty. I went to a party dressed as A Sister Wife on Safari on Wednesday and now I am headed to Atlanta to take down Henri’s, La Grotta, Superica, Fellinis. Jalisco.

I will be laughing so hard with the high school crew Saturday that there may be some pee my pants moments. There will also be dancing- so let these Rockstar ladies get you going this Saturday morning.
