So I proclaimed last week that this go round on the Whole 30 I would post in the evenings vs. the mornings. Well that was a good plan…. for one day.
Here’s why: Cooking is a pain in the arse! Now granted, May is insanely busy time in life- kids, adults, school, work, sports, etc- so I drastically underestimated the extra energy and time required to mince, chop, shop, cook and clean. I chopped, minced and marinated yesterday morning and then during a break in conference calls/meetings cooked from 5-6, ate with Henry from 5:30-5:37, then cleaned/did dishes for what felt like a lifetime.
I despise doing dishes, I would so much rather clean toilets or vacuum- there is just so much less immediate satisfaction in terms of sanitization. Henry and I were in our respective beds with our PJs on by 7. No joke. Then I had meetings from 7-9…..which I did from my bed with my PJs on (Jason if anyone wants validation on this claim I will send them to you…btw, Jason is not my Australian boyfriend, just a coworker who had the pleasure of video conferencing with me in my PJ’s) and then literally was drooling on my laptop by 9:15. So hence, I write to you this morning
A few things that were validated yesterday:
- Breakfast: There is still perverse joy in making crispy tasty bacon and eating that aforementioned tasty bacon with some avocado in the morning.
- Lunch: A salad made at home. I don’t care about your culinary talents or how fresh the ingredients are- Salads made at home just aren’t as good as Salad’s made at restaurants. They just aren’t. Some of this is because at a restaurant you didn’t have to be the one to go to 4 different groceries to secure the ingredients and also didn’t have to chop them all- but I always think if I make it I will feel more satisfaction from eating- that just isn’t the case.
- Dinner: Although the prep work was annoying- I made the “Ginger-Coconut Chicken Noodle Bowl” from the Whole 30 cookbook and it was so gooood and loved by all family members- except Molly, who opted for Mac and Cheese- I would have been tempted by watching her eat this if I was not already in bed before she even made it home from swim team practice.
I also had a rude awakening yesterday. I have planned quite poorly- which I have to admit rarely happens as I pride myself on my ability to manage calendar/schedule/plan, etc.- if you need shit to happen- I am your women….except when it comes to planning healthy eating. Doug pointed out that on Day 20/June 3rd is my favorite party of the summer and then on Day 21 we head to our family trip to the beach for a week. I mean I am tough and all but going to a party with fun peeps, cocktails, fried oysters (which really are my Achilles heel after cheese and crackers)…AND a band!!!!….I just don’t know if I have that kind of strength. SO I am just putting it out there that this may be a Whole 20. Perhaps we weigh on June 20th and then put it to a vote???
Another piece of this rude awakening was that Doug pointed out that he didn’t know how I could have missed calculated since I had this party marked in my Outlook calendar, my day planner and wall calendar…yep, I have 3 calendars.
Would love to chat more, but I need to get to choppin.
